Accounts Payable Clerk
Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of
Accounts payable clerk at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for managing the organization’s outgoing payments, ensuring that supplier invoices are processed accurately and payments are made on time. The role also supports financial reporting through bank reconciliations, withholding tax preparation, petty cash management, and weekly cash management reporting to the head office in Perth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounts Payable
• Receive, review, and verify supplier invoices and supporting documentation.
• Ensure invoices are properly coded, approved, and recorded in the accounting system.
• Prepare and process supplier payments through bank transfers, cheques, or other approved payment methods.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounts payable records and filing systems.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.
• Respond to vendor queries regarding payments.
• Preparation of NRT upload files.
Bank Reconciliations
• Perform bank reconciliations for company bank accounts.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items and discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Ensure bank balances and accounting records are accurate and properly maintained.
Withholding Tax
• Prepare withholding tax schedules and supporting documentation.
• Assist with monthly reconciliation of withholding tax accounts.
• Ensure accurate records are maintained for tax compliance and reporting purposes.
Cash Management
• Prepare weekly cash management reports detailing cash balances, expected inflows, and
payment commitments.
• Submit weekly cash reports to the Head Office in Perth within required timelines.
• Monitor cash availability to ensure sufficient funds for operational needs.
Payroll
• Compile and prepare PAYE return input for local staff.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in accounts payable or finance-related role.
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Pastel, QuickBooks, or similar systems).
• Knowledge of basic tax compliance and financial controls is an advantage.
