Accountant Job Description

Position Overview:

The Accountant manages and analyses the organisation’s financial records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This position entails the preparation of financial reports, the reconciliation of accounts, and the support of the organisation’s financial decision-making processes. An ideal candidate is characterised by a keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and regulations.

Reports to: Dual reporting to Lodge Manager and Director

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management:

  • Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, invoices, and accounts.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes. o Process and manage payroll and expense reports.

2. Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities. o Preparing budgets and financial forecasts.

3. Reconciliation and Compliance:

  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy in all financial transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial reporting regulations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.

4. Tax and Regulatory Requirements:

  • Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring timely submission.
  • Stay updated on tax laws and financial regulations, advising management on changes.

5. Process Improvement:

  • Develop and implement best practices for financial processes and controls.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an accountant or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent analytical, and problem-solving, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with tax preparation and compliance.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.

Work Environment:

The role is typically office-based, requiring the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working odd hours may be inevitable during peak financial periods, such as audits or tax season.
