About Green Villages
Green Villages is a local real estate development company established to complement the Malawi Government’s efforts in providing well-planned land for housing development to urban Malawians. The company specializes in developing large-scale, sustainable, and functional urban communities designed for middle- and high-income households.
To support its growing operations, Green Villages is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position of Accountant.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day financial operations of Green Villages.
- Recording all financial transactions accurately and ensuring proper authorization of payments, cheques, and bank transfers.
- Preparing and processing monthly payroll, ensuring timely deductions and remittance of statutory obligations such as PAYE to MRA.
- Preparing and monitoring the company’s budget, analyzing variances, and providing explanations and recommendations to the Director of Finance and Chief Executive Officer.
- Managing cash flow to ensure adequate funds for operational and project needs.
- Assisting the Director of Finance with budget planning and financial forecasting.
- Ensuring compliance with company procurement and financial policies.
- Maintaining and overseeing the proper operation of the accounting system (QuickBooks).
- Performing monthly bank reconciliations and maintaining up-to-date financial records.
- Supporting both internal and external auditors by providing required documentation and information.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Recommending and implementing accounting policies and procedures that align with international accounting standards.
- Performing any other duties assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and familiarity with advanced MS Excel functions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare and interpret detailed financial reports.
- High integrity, reliability, and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Hardworking, results-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Possession of a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or ICAM) or being a Chartered Accountant will be an added advantage.
