Bancassurance Manager (Tenable in Blantyre)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced and competent individuals for the above position at the Bank. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Banking, and supervising bancassurance operations and sales staff, the Bancassurance Manager leads the development, implementation, and growth of the Bank’s bancassurance business. The Bancassurance Manager is also responsible for driving insurance sales through the bank’s distribution channels, managing relationships with insurance partners, and ensuring the achievement of revenue and customer acquisition targets.

Key Responsibilities

I. Strategy and Business Development

  • Develop and implement the bank’s bancassurance strategy in line with overall business objectives.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities to increase insurance penetration and revenue.
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends and recommend new insurance solutions.
  • Develop initiatives to expand the bancassurance customer base and improve market share.

2. Sales and Revenue Growth

  • Drive the achievement of bancassurance sales, revenue, and profitability targets across all banking channels.
    Develop and implement sales campaigns, business plans, forecasts, and budgets to support sustainable growth of the bancassurance portfolio.
  • Monitor sales performance, key performance indicators (KPls), and portfolio trends, taking corrective action and recommending improvement strategies to achieve business objectives.
  • Analyze sales, revenue, profitability, and portfolio performance data to support decision-making and identify growth opportunities.
    Prepare and present regular business performance reports to management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and actions required.
  • Maximize revenue generation from insurance products while delivering value and meeting customer needs.

3. Branch Network Support and Capacity Building

  • Provide leadership and support to branch teams in the sale of insurance products.
    Develop and deliver training programs to enhance staff knowledge and sales effectiveness.
    Coach branch staff and relationship managers on insurance product features and sales techniques.
  • Promote a sales culture that integrates insurance solutions into customer engagements.

4. Customer Experience and Product Management

  • Ensure insurance products meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance service delivery.
  • Work with partners to develop innovative products and solutions for different customer segments.
  • Ensure timely resolution of customer complaints relating to insurance products and services.

5. Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with banking, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor adherence to internal policies, procedures, and bancassurance agreements.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, regulatory, and reputational risks associated with the bancassurance business.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical conduct and customer protection.

6. Relationship and Stakeholder Management

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with insurance partners, service providers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies and internal departments to ensure efficient product delivery and service excellence.
  • Negotiate partnership agreements, service levels, and business growth initiatives.
  • Represent the Bank in engagements with insurers, regulators, industry bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Foster strong working relationships across the organization to support the achievement of bancassurance objectives.

7. People Management and Leadership

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and performance management for the Insurance Operations Officers and Insurance Sales Officers to ensure the achievement of business and service objectives.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, identifying training needs and fostering a high-performance, customer-centric culture.
  • Oversee workforce planning, resource allocation, and day-to-day team operations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Support talent management activities, including recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and compliance with the Bank’s HR policies and standards.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Insurance, Marketing, or a related discipline, plus a professional Chartered Insurance qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in banking, insurance, or bancassurance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven track record in sales management and business development.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, banking operations, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and business reporting tools.
