Job Title: Finance Manager (1)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Finance Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the financial management and operations of World Relief Malawi (WRM). The incumbent will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure sound financial stewardship of organizational resources, and lead the finance team in delivering high-quality financial services and compliance. Reporting directly to the Country Director, the Project Finance Manager will work closely with the World Relief Home Office (HO) Finance Team to ensure alignment with organizational policies, procedures, donor requirements, and financial reporting standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Budgeting
Supporting proposal and annual budget development, entering budgets into the ERP system, conducting budget reviews, and assisting project managers with budget monitoring. - Financial Reporting
Preparing monthly, quarterly, annual, and project-end financial reports for management, donors, partners, and headquarters, while addressing any financial reporting queries.
- Financial Management
Overseeing daily accounting operations, including cash management, banking, payroll, inventory, receivables, and payables ensuring compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and legal regulations; and training staff on financial procedures. - Audit and Compliance
Ensuring annual audits are conducted and maintaining compliance with financial, tax, labor, and other statutory requirements. - Operational Systems
Establishing and maintaining operational systems aligned with World Relief policies, safeguarding organizational assets, and ensuring staff adherence to procedures through regular training and guidance. - Strategic Leadership
Contributing to organizational strategy, advising management on financial planning, risk management, and change initiatives, and promoting a culture of sound financial stewardship. - Staff Management
Managing staff performance through objective setting, reviews, coaching, mentoring, professional development opportunities, and recognition of high performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Financial Auditing or related qualification.
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA/ACCA is a requirement.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- At least 5 years of progressive large-scale grants financial management experience and understanding of USG and other donor regulations.
- Experience with International Non-Governmental Organizations and an ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Previous experience with a financial auditing firm will be an added advantage.
- Advanced computer knowledge skills in MS Office package, particularly Excel and Power-point.
- Ability to manage multiple budgets.
- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment.
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with local stakeholders
- Representation abilities.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented
- Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
- Staff supervision experience.
- Ability to contribute to the development of technical proposals, a plus.
