Norwegian Church Aid works with people and organizations around the world in their struggle to eradicate poverty and injustice. We provide emergency assistance in disasters and work for long-term development in local communities. To address the root causes of poverty, we advocate just decisions by public authorities, businesses, and religious leaders.

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization working in over 20 countries around the world. It is a member of the worldwide ACT Alliance, comprising 140 churches and church-related organizations cooperating on humanitarian assistance, advocacy, and development. Norwegian Church Aid and DanChurchAid have been working in Malawi since 2002 and the 1980s, respectively.

In 2021, NCA joined forces with DCA and are operating as a Malawi Joint Country Programme (JCP).

The vision for Malawi JCP is to have a just, resilient, and inclusive Malawi society for economic growth. The Programme aims to realize this vision through three interlinked long-term goals: Save Lives, Build Resilience, and Seek Justice. NCA-DCA Malawi Strategic Priorities for the period 2025-2029 are Economic Development and Food Security, Climate and Environmental Stewardship, Fighting Inequalities (FI) and addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV). NCA-DCA Malawi is seeking an innovative and talented communications intern to support the organization’s visibility efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and creating content for NCA-DCA’s digital platforms, designing interactive multimedia posters, covering events, producing short videos, taking high resolution photographs and writing impact stories about the organization’s projects and work in Malawi.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (3 MONTHS)

The successful candidate will be part of the Communications team supporting the NCA-DCA programmes department and will be based at the country office in Lilongwe. The position will report to the Communications Officer and is for a period of 3 months.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and update social media platforms, websites, and other digital communication channels.
  • Design and produce interactive multimedia materials including brochures, posters, banners, reports, and newsletters.
  • Capture content for story telling such as photographs, videos, and short animations for campaigns and online platforms.
  • Edit photographs and videos for mass dissemination.
  • Track and monitor key social media analytics, including Google Analytics, and monitor stories on NCA-DCA Malawi documented in the local and international media, and by partners related to project activities, and impact stories.
  • Prepare multimedia and graphic materials for both print and digital publication.
  • Contribute to articles, newsletters, magazines and other communication products that highlight program achievements.
  • Collaborate with program teams to translate technical information into clear and engaging communication materials.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT, AND LEARNING

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good social media and Digital Platforms management skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe suite preferably Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, InDesign.
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics, Canva to create engaging visual materials.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic international work environment
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University Degree preferably in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or related field.
  • At least practical experience in the digital communications or related field.
  • Practical experience in designing tools and digital monitoring tools.
  • Experience in website management and social media tools i.e., Facebook, X, Linkedin, Instagram, Bluesky and WhatsApp.
  • Knowledge in social media analytics, including Google Analytics and Facebook Insights.
  • Proven experience in MS Office, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Canva, Photoshop or lightroom, or other publishing and editing tools.
