Background
The National Audit Office (NAO) is a Supreme Audit Institution established under the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and the Public Audit Act, mandated to provide independent assurance to Parliament and the public on the prudent use and management of public resources in order to promote transparency, accountability and good governance.
The Office conducts Financial, Compliance, Forensic, Performance and Information Systems audits across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Local Authorities, Statutory Corporations and all public institutions.
The Office is, therefore, inviting suitably qualified, competent and result-oriented individuals to apply for various vacant positions that have arisen within the National Audit Office.

Position Title: Chief Auditor – IT/Forensic Audit
Grade: AO-05
Department/Division : IT/Forensic Audit
Reporting to: Assistant Auditor General – IT/Forensic Audit
Purpose of the post: To identify potential vulnerabilities, risks, and weaknesses in IT systems
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, and managing audit engagements
- Preparing sectional budget estimates
- Reviewing working papers for standardisation
- Assessing risk related to information technology systems, data security, and IT processes
- Developing audit plans outlining the scope, objectives, and procedures for IT audits
- Evaluating the effectiveness of IT controls
- Verifying compliance with relevant laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies governing IT operations and dat protection
- Assessing the adequacy of IT security measures
- Analysing IT systems, logs, and audit trails
- Supervising and appraising the performance of sectional members
- Preparing and submitting annual audit programmes to the Assistant Auditor General.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor of IT, Accountancy or Auditing
- Must have Professional certification (e.g., ISACA, CFE, ACCA, CPA, CIMA). IT certification is a requirement
- A minimum of 5 years’ post graduate progressive experience in IT/ Forensic or Financial Auditing with at least 4 years at Supervisory level or Principal IT/IS Forensic Auditor or Principal Auditor grade in the public service
- Thorough knowledge of public sector audit standards, accounting principles and financial legislation.
