Background
The National Audit Office (NAO) is a Supreme Audit Institution established under the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and the Public Audit Act, mandated to provide independent assurance to Parliament and the public on the prudent use and management of public resources in order to promote transparency, accountability and good governance.
The Office conducts Financial, Compliance, Forensic, Performance and Information Systems audits across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Local Authorities, Statutory Corporations and all public institutions.
The Office is, therefore, inviting suitably qualified, competent and result-oriented individuals to apply for various vacant positions that have arisen within the National Audit Office.

Position Title: Chief Auditor – Financial & Compliance Audit
Grade: AO-05
Department/Division : Financial & Compliance Audit
Reporting to: Assistant Auditor General
Purpose of the post
To provide independent and objective assurance on the use of public resources
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing and managing audit engagements
- Vetting Management letters, audit reports and annual reports
- Preparing sectional budget estimates
- Supervising audit teams
- Conducting entrance and exit meetings with the client together with audit teams
- Preparing and submitting quarterly work progress reports to the Assistant Auditor General
- Appraising the performance of sectional members
- Vetting Management letters, audit reports and annual report.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance or Auditing
- Must have Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CFA)
- Minimum of 5 years’ post graduate progressive experience in Financial and Compliance Auditing with at least 4 years at
- Supervisory level or Principal Auditor grade in the public service Thorough knowledge of public sector auditing standards, accounting principles and financial legislation.
