The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi.

ESCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions currently existing in the Corporation.

Graduate Engineer Trainee – (Distribution & Transmission) – 33 Positions
Location: All ESCOM Stations
Supervised by : Engineer

Purpose of the Job

To assist Engineers in ensuring effective planning, construction, loss reduction and maintenance of Distribution and Transmission networks and related infrastructure by efficiently managing and optimising resources

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Assisting in the planning, coordination and implementation of construction, operations, and maintenance, as well as implementation of Revenue Protections programmes in line with Corporation’s goals, policies, and standards
  2. Assisting in planning, scheduling, and management of planned and forced power outages within the designated area of responsibility.
  3. Assist in the monitoring, inspection and certification of outsourced construction and maintenance works to ensure compliance with contractual specifications and quality standards.
  4. Assisting in preparation and provision of specifications and quantities of the needed maintenance materials for procurement purposes.
  5. Conducting and coordinating routine inspections of the distribution network and associated equipment to identify defects, risks, and potential system failures
  6. Facilitating proper tests of equipment before installation and re-installation.
  7. Assisting in developing and reviewing construction and maintenance policies and programs
  8. Participating in carrying out construction and maintenance work when need arises
  9. Responding to queries on matters related to electricity distribution and supply
  10. Monitoring to ensure quality customer services activities in line with the Customer Service Charter
  11. Assist in preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports
  12. Any other duties as per assigned from time to time

Minimum Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Renewable Energy/Sustainable Energy Systems/Energy Engineering/ Metallurgy & Materials Engineering
  • MEI/MIA Membership

Note: Selected candidates will undergo an intensive 72 weeks training whilst assisting Engineers and Senior Engineers in meeting targets. The training shall involve both classroom and practical work and upon successful completion of the training, the candidates shall be appointed to the substantive position of Assistant Engineer Grade ES8
