HAIL & COTTON (Malawi) LIMITED, a fully owned subsidiary of HAIL & COTTON International B.V. based in Netherlands, a company that supplies premium leaf tobacco and value-added services to manufacturers of tobacco products worldwide, is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates to join our dynamic team in the following roles:
LEAF ACCOUNTANT
Employment Type: Permanent
Location: Lilongwe.
Job Purpose
This role oversees financial reconciliations and transactions for tobacco purchases, processing activities, and inventory positions. It ensures accuracy, strong financial controls, and reliable reporting for leaf operations, while providing support to both the Finance and Leaf Operations teams. The position reports to the Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and reconcile all tobacco leaf purchases from all the Auction Floors.
- Liaise with Auction Holding Limited on queries regarding tobacco buying.
- Verify accuracy of receiving reports with receiving warehouses.
- Maintain accurate leaf inventory records across all phases: receiving; processing, storage, and dispatch/ sales.
- Perform Monthly green and dry physical inventory reconciliations between the physical stock counts with system records, investigating and resolving variances.
- Conduct green and dry physical inventory counts and produce weekly and monthly tobacco inventory reports.
- Track leaf movements between warehouses and processes.
- Compile tobacco buying reports/market statistics for management use on daily basis.
- Prepare financial reports for leaf operations, including cost summaries, production variances, and stock positions; and
- Work closely with operations staff to ensure timely and accurate data capture.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional qualification or part qualification (ACCA or ICAM) is a strong advantage.
- Training in agricultural or manufacturing cost accounting is desirable.
- 3-5 years’ accounting experience, preferably in tobacco leaf, agriculture, or manufacturing.
- Experience in inventory management
