Alliance One Tobacco (Malawi) Ltd is seeking applications for the position of:

SENIOR LEAF BUYER – SEASONAL

Reporting directly to the Accounts Executive, key responsibilities for the successful candidate will among other things include the following:

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the buying and evaluation of green tobacco to ensure it meets company and customer quality standards.
  • Purchase tobacco through contract and auction markets and allocate it to the appropriate customer grades.
  • Work closely with growers and their representatives to support smooth and efficient tobacco marketing.
  • Monitor the performance of leaf buyers, trainee buyers, and classifiers to ensure quality and pricing standards are met, while ensuring the team follows daily buying policies and market trends.
  • Inspect tobacco deliveries and monitor quality during processing to ensure customer specifications are achieved.
  • Prepare and submit reports including market, crop, packing, and CPA analysis reports.
  • Prepare crop forecasts, monitor crop quality and volumes and gather crop intelligence to support company planning.
  • Train and mentor leaf buyers and trainee buyers and monitor their performance to support their development.
  • Reclassify rejected tobacco and recommend improvements to processing standards where necessary.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
  • A Diploma or Degree in Tobacco Production, Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in tobacco buying, leaf sales, or tobacco classification, with traceable references.
  • Strong leadership, planning and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy is required.
