Position: People and Culture Officer

We are seeking a passionate, detail-oriented, and service-driven People and Culture Officer to support the effective implementation of our human capital strategy at Head Office in Lilongwe. This role is pivotal in fostering a high-performance, values-aligned culture through robust onboarding, performance management, and staff development systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end recruitment processes from screening and selection to onboarding and orientation ensuring a seamless candidate experience.
  • Coordinate timely renewal of employment contracts and maintain accurate personnel records.
  • Facilitate the Learning, Orientation, and Role Onboarding (LORO) process to accelerate staff integration and productivity.
  • Design and deliver a structured new staff induction program, including content, schedule, and alignment with organizational values.
  • Partner with managers to set SMART performance targets, align performance contracts with job descriptions, and embed a culture of accountability.
  • Administer monthly, quarterly, and annual performance evaluations in line with policy, and analyze trends to identify performance gaps.
  • Recommend and coordinate staff recognition initiatives to celebrate milestones and reinforce positive behaviours.
  • Support the development of promotion criteria and performance indicators in consultation with the People & Culture Manager.
  • Coordinate training needs assessments and ensure timely delivery of capacity-building programs.
  • Champion a performance-oriented culture grounded in feedback, coaching, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years proven experience in HR operations, preferably within financial services, NGOS, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Proficiency in Sage VIP Payroll is mandatory; experience with other HRIS platforms is an added advantage
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical people practices.
