Job Description
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial integrity and sustainability of Mpico through accurate financial recording, reporting, and compliance with established accounting standards.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will support day-to-day finance operations, including reconciliations, preparation of financial reports, and maintenance of accounting records, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with the Group’s policies, procedures, and service standards.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will, among other duties, be responsible for:
- Preparation of monthly management accounts for individual entities within the MPICO Group.
- Preparation of annual statutory accounts for the individual entities within the Group.
- Preparation of quarterly cash flow forecasts for individual entities within the Group.
- Preparation of budgets and processing the same in the Accounting Package.
- Analysis of the actual financial performance against plan and recommend to management the corrective actions.
- Review of Accounts Payable invoices and payment schedules to ensure accuracy of payments.
- Bi-annual computation of IFRS 9 provisions and assist in determining the provision matrices.
- Maintenance of the Investment Property register and processing of valuation movements.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and ensure full compliance with fixed asset policy.
- Preparation of rental and service charges income reconciliations and ensure that they agree to the ledger.
- Monthly and quarterly reconciliation of taxes in line with Standard Operating Procedures and ensure that ledger balances agree with Malawi Revenue Authority records.
- Preparation of monthly Third-Party managed properties reports in line with Service Level Agreements.
- Intercompany and general ledger reconciliations including prepayments.
- Assisting the Finance Manager in coordinating internal/external audits and take responsibility for agreeing and clearing items raised.
- Maintain a cordial relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
- Managing the finance team and ensure that they are developed, motivated, and engaged to continually improve work performance.
- Any other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
