The Catholic University of Malawi invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following full-time positions tenable at Montfort campus, Nguludi -Chiradzulu and St. Thomas Moore campus in Lilongwe.

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

Position: Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Technician (1 post)

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Gathering data from various sources including maps, drone imagery. satellite imagery and field survey
  • Managing and maintaining GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity in the GIS Lab
  • Conducting spatial analysis to identify patterns and relationships within geographical data
  • Creating detailed maps and visualizations to effectively communicate spatial information
  • Providing technical support to students, assisting with troubleshooting and training staff on GIS applications
  • Conducting fieldwork to validate data and ensure accuracy of geographical information
  • Providing tutorials to students in Cartography, GIS and Remote Sensing

Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geography or Environmental Studies or related field from an accredited institution

Experience

Applicants must have

  • A minimum of two years of lecturing experience in a recognized institution of higher learning
  • Knowledge of online lecturing and learning applications
  • Experience in using cartographic software (AutoCAD, Surfer)
  • Experience in using programming, GIS and database management software (SOL, Python, RStudio, OGIS, ArGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine, ILWIS) or any other mapping software

 

Position: Standards Compliance & Inspection Officer (1 post)

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Developing and overseeing control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Evaluating the efficiency of controls and improving them continuously
  • Revising procedures, reports etc. periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues
  • Collaborating with corporate counsels and HR departments to monitor reinforcement of standards and regulations
  • Reviewing work of colleagues when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training
  • Preparing reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate

Qualification:

Bachelor’s in Education or any relevant field from an accredited institution

 

Position: Psycho-social Counsellor (1 post)

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to understand dients’ needs and provide tailored
  • psychosocial support. This includes offering counseling to individuals,
  • families, and groups dealing with emotional and psychological issues.
  • Manage cases by developing and implementing treatment plans, monitoring client progress, and adjusting plans as necessary to meet evolving needs
  • Provide immediate support and intervention during crises, ensuring the
  • safety and well-being of clients.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers and social services, to coordinate care and resources for clients.
  • Educate clients about mental health issues and available resources, and advocate for their needs within the community and healthcare systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Qualification:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or any relevant field from an accredited institution; This position is strictly for female applicants.

 

Position: Administrator – CUNIMA Research Ethics Committee (1 post)

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinating research proposals submission and reviews
  • Managing REC meetings and communications
  • Assisting researchers with document submission to the REC
  • Providing guidance on REC requirements and compliance obligations
  • Managing and tracking submitted proposals through the review and approved process
  • Reviewing amendments and responses to queries
  • Coordinating the protocol review process
  • Overseeing REC revenue streams
  • Planning, monitoring and evaluating REC activities
  • Managing the Secretariat daily administration
  • Screening application packages for completeness and eligibility
  • Ensuring compliance with institutional, national and international ethical standards

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Ethics or Applied Ethics from an accredited institution
