Eagles Relief and Development Programme International (Eagles) is a faith based not-for-profit Organisation founded by the Living Waters Church International in 2002. Eagles is inviting applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals for the position of WASH Facilitator. The position is for the “Improving access to sustainable Services project”, funded by Welthungerhilfe (WHH).

Location: Dedza, Malawi
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Duration: 12 Months

Job Purpose

The WASH Facilitator will be responsible for ensuring that all project activities are properly planned, facilitated, and implemented at the community level in line with the project’s approach and objectives, with a focus on improving access to sustainable water and sanitation services and promoting improved hygiene practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Community Mobilization: Mobilize and sensitize communities, local leaders, and relevant authorities to effectively participate in all WASH project activities.

Training & Capacity Building:

  • Facilitate pre-drilling and post-drilling trainings for water point user committees (WUCs) to ensure proper management and maintenance of water points.
  • Lead capacity-building efforts for WUCs in performance monitoring and Village Savings and Loans (VSL) activities.
  • Conduct behaviour change training in communities on key hygiene practices such as hand washing and safe latrine use.

Project Implementation & Monitoring:

  • Oversee the drilling process and ensure adherence to technical standards and community needs.
  • Facilitate post-Open Defecation Free (ODF) activities, including latrine audits, to sustain improved sanitation status.
  • Support the distribution and proper utilization of hygiene kits (if applicable) and conduct post-distribution monitoring.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and home visits to ensure appropriate standards and procedures are observed in all community-level WASH activities.

Reporting & Coordination:

  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant government extension workers (health, water, etc.) and other local stakeholders during project implementation.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports detailing the status of WASH activities, challenges, and solutions.
  • Ensure cross-cutting issues like gender, disability, and safeguarding are mainstreamed in all project activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water Engineering, Water Resources Management and Development, Sociology, Community Development, or a related field
  • Proven experience of working in WASH-related development projects, with a strong focus on participatory methodologies and community-based management.
  • Demonstrable experience in community mobilization and tacilitating training sessions for various community groups.
  • High levels of integrity and professionalism with zero tolerance attitude against corruption
  • Commitment to excellence as well as to personal & organisational learning, growth and development
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and report writing skills (fluency in English and Chichewa required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • A valid Malawian motorcycle driving license is a MUST and willingness to travel extensively in the field.
  • Strong respect and empathy for rural communities and a commitment to promoting community initiatives.
