The Malawi–Liverpool–Wellcome Programme (MLW) is seeking to hire a Clinician Coordinator who shall be based within the Clinical Department and reporting to the Clinical Manager.
POSITION FUNCTION (PURPOSE)
To provide leadership and assist the clinical manager in managing the clinical research clinicians and Physicians at MLW. To help in providing for the ongoing educational and professional development of the clinicians’ staff and supporting their career progression.
Responsibilities
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain an up-to-date database of all clinicians at MLW, including their current registration status with Medical Council of Malawi (MCM).
- Serve as the main point of contact for international clinicians arriving in Malawi/MLW for the first time, ensuring their formal registration with MCM is completed.
- Oversee the clinical induction process for new Principal Investigators (PIs), guiding them through to final registration.
- Collaborate with the clinical manager to process the registration and renewal of all clinicians with MCM at MLW.
- Coordinate all Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities, ensuring compliance with MCM regulations and maintaining CPD compliance among all MLW clinicians.
- Provide hands-on clinical support to MLW units as needed, becoming familiar with clinical operations in the Stroke Unit, HDRU, CIU, and QECH AETC.
- Act as a liaison, and administrative coordinator between investigators and ancillary departments within and outside MLW, as well as study sponsors and regulatory bodies.
- Review, update, and develop protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and clinical procedures to align with current best practices, seeking approval from the clinical manager for any changes or new implementations.
- Assist the clinical manager with recruiting, supervising, and appraising study clinicians as appropriate.
- Coordinate the timely provision of clinical attire and equipment, such as coats, shoes, and stethoscopes, in collaboration with the clinical manager.
- Facilitate the operation of QECH/MLW research unit user groups by organizing meetings, coordinating activities, and tracking action items.
- Promote and support professional development and training for clinical staff; identify training needs and work with the training officer and clinical manager to arrange appropriate training.
- Monitor clinical equipment inventory and participate in the training of staff on new equipment and techniques as needed.
- Conduct site visits to ensure clinical staff compliance with regulatory standards, including GCP, NMCM, and MCM requirements.
- Oversee the management of MLW rooms, ensuring a safe and supportive work environment, coordinate with the clinical and facilities managers on maintenance, redecoration, and pest control in core clinical areas.
- Help organize and facilitate clinical training events, such as CRIT, conferences, workshops, and meetings.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: (i.e., Education, Training and Experience Requirements).
Education:
- MBBS, BSc Clinical Medicine, or a Diploma in Clinical Medicine with a bachelor’s plus postgraduate certificate in clinical trials, research, or medical affairs.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in research, clinical work, and management.
- Clinical trial experience preferred.
