The Malawi–Liverpool–Wellcome Programme (MLW) is seeking to hire a Data Analyst who shall be based within the Information and Communication Technology department.

Responsibilities

POSITION FUNCTION (PURPOSE)

The Data Analyst will play a critical role in enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex datasets. This role supports MLW’s IT Strategy 2025–2029 by advancing business intelligence, fostering data governance, and delivering actionable insights that enhance research and operational efficiency. The Data Analyst will work closely with business units to design dashboards, develop reports, and ensure data integrity, aligning with the organization’s digital transformation and innovation goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Management & Analysis

  • Collect, clean, and validate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data repositories in line with IT governance and security standards.
  • Perform statistical analysis and generate insights to support strategic and operational decisions.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

  • Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define reporting requirements and KPIs.
  • Ensure timely delivery of accurate and meaningful reports for operational teams.

Data Governance & Compliance

  • Implement data quality standards and ensure compliance with MLW’s Data Security Policy.
  • Support data classification and secure storage initiatives as outlined in the IT Strategy.
  • Promote best practices in data stewardship across operation departments.

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Work with the Digital Innovations team to integrate analytics into digital solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and predictive analytics using AI/ML tools.
  • Support the adoption of emerging technologies for advanced analytics.

Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide training and support to staff on data literacy and BI tools.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, and data visualization techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
