Background of the Organization
St John of God Hospitaller Services [SJOG] is a faith based charitable organization established in Malawi in 1994 to contribute to the development of Health for all by providing both residential and community based mental health promotion and care, maternal mental health and child & adolescent psychiatry programs. SJOG Malawi also delivers early intervention programs, inclusive education and community-based rehabilitation for children with disabilities. It works in partnership with the Government of Malawi, partner organizations, the community and individual families, to provide quality mental health care and disability inclusion services which are accessible, sustainable and comprehensive. SJOG has program interventions in the areas of older persons; street connected children, psychosocial counselling support, addiction recovery and self-help group approach for women empowerment.
SJOG operates a University of Health Sciences offering tertiary level training for psychiatric nurses, psychiatric clinicians, psycho-social counsellors and general nurses.
Report to the Director of Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation, the Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Coordinator will be responsible for coordination of all resource mobilisation initiatives within SJOG Malawi including development of proposal and grants applications to potential donors/partners. S/He will liaise with program teams to identify and follow up on linkages between donor strategies, partner NGOs and SJOG Malawi priorities. S/He will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities and matching them to program needs. S/He will be accountable for reaching funding targets, ensuring the development and timely submission of high-quality proposals while working in close collaboration with the program and resource mobilisation team in Malawi, Ireland, the UK & The Netherlands.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to):
- Lead grant acquisition efforts by researching funding opportunities, developing high-quality proposals, coordinating project design, and maintaining a strong grants pipeline.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration (Finance, HR, Procurement, IT, MEAL, Programme teams) during proposal development and grant management.
- Oversee grant management and compliance, including reporting, donor communication, partnership development, and ensuring adherence to donor requirements.
- Administer grants systems and databases, manage system improvements, and ensure proper grant documentation and record-keeping.
- Provide internal leadership, supervising fundraising staff, supporting team workflows, attending programme meetings, and contributing to new grant applications.
- Coordinate donor engagement activities, including organizing high-standard donor visits and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of donor priorities and funding landscapes.
- Strengthen strategic partnerships by researching and engaging with local and international stakeholders, networks, and organizations to expand programme reach and collaboration opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Development, public health, public policy, social sciences, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, working with donor funded programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Excel, database management, and project management software
- Strong verbal and written communicator, ideally including experience using negotiating strategies
- Grant writing experience and demonstrated track record with restricted and unrestricted funding streams.
- Familiarity with key humanitarian and development donors.
