The Learning Centre for Quality Management (LCQM) at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is dedicated to advancing healthcare quality improvement in Malawi and the Southern African region through training, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. LCQM works with health facilities, government institutions, and development partners to strengthen systems that deliver better patient outcomes.
LCQM would like to recruit interns who will receive structured mentorship, hands-on technical training, and first-hand exposure to healthcare quality improvement processes. In addition, the interns will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects impacting healthcare delivery in Malawi. LCQM is therefore inviting suitably qualified candidates to fill the following Internships positions:
1 Intern-Communications and Marketing
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: Communications and Marketing Lead
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension Type: Full Time
Position Overview
The Communications and Marketing Intern will support the Communications and Marketing Unit in promoting LCQM’s programmes, documenting success stories, managing digital platforms, and enhancing visibility. This role is ideal for a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented individual who has passionate about health, communications, and digital storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing LCQM’s communications and marketing strategies.
- Draft, edit, and proofread content for social media, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
- Manage and update LCQM’s social media platforms and website with engaging and timely content.
- Support the documentation of activities, including photography, videography, and story writing.
- Assist in organising media coverage and visibility for LCQM events and
- Contributes to the design of marketing and communication materials (flyers, posters, infographics, videos).
- Conduct media and digital analytics to track reach, engagement, and
- Support internal communications, including newsletters, bulletins, and updates to staff.
- Maintain the communications content library (photos, videos, publications).
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Communications and Marketing Lead.
Qualifications and Skills
- Recently completed Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling
- Proficiency in social media management (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram).
- Basic graphic design and video editing skills (Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools).
- Good photography and videography skills are an added

- Interest in healthcare, advocacy, and nonprofit communications is desirable.
2 Intern – Capacity Building Unit
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: Capacity Building Lead
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The Intern will provide technical and administrative support to the Capacity Building Unit in delivering training programs, developing e-learning content, engaging stakeholders, and supporting enrolled students. This role offers practical exposure to curriculum development, instructional design, reporting, and health policy engagement while contributing to the Learning Centre’s objectives in strengthening health systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting and compiling activity, monthly, and quarterly
- Support the development of storyboards, PowerPoint presentations, and other training materials.
- Provide logistical and administrative support in organizing meetings, workshops, trainings and mentorship of COE’s.
- Providing support to facilitators during online classes
- Support recording, editing, and uploading of course content on

- Engage with stakeholders and support follow-up communications with policymakers, training institutions, and partners.
- Provide academic and administrative support to students enrolled in the Fundamentals of Quality Improvement (FQI) program, including responding to queries, monitoring progress, and assisting with course-related needs.

Qualifications and Skills
- Recently completed Bachelor’s degree in public health, Education, Social Sciences, Communication, or related field.
- Strong writing and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to draft reports and briefs.
- Interest or familiarity with curriculum development, e-learning, and instructional design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and comfort with online platforms (e.g., Moodle, Zoom, Teams).
- Previous experience in research projects, training support, or communications will be an added advantage.

3 Intern – Documentation and Learning
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: Documentation and Learning Officer
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Full Time
Position Overview
The Documentation and Learning Intern will support systematic documentation, knowledge packaging, and dissemination of lessons and successful change ideas. The role will provide practical exposure to knowledge management processes in healthcare quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in collecting, compiling, and organizing documentation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Support the preparation of briefs, newsletters, case studies, and other knowledge-sharing products.
- Provide administrative and technical support during trainings, workshops, and learning sessions.
- Assist in updating and maintaining collaborative learning platforms and digital repositories
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports
- Provide logistical and clerical support in documentation-related activities
Qualifications and Skills
- Recently completed Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Sciences, or related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills with ability to synthesize information
- Basic knowledge of data management or documentation
- Computer literacy (MS Office; familiarity with digital platforms an advantage)

4 Intern – Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MELL)
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: MEL Officer
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The MEL Intern will support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities of the Centre. The role will provide practical exposure to data management, analysis, and reporting to strengthen quality healthcare improvement systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support data collection, entry, cleaning, and storage across LCQM programs.
- Assist in preparing data summaries, dashboards, and reports for stakeholders.
- Contribute to documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and case studies
- Support development and updating MEL tools, databases, and and templates.
- Assist in organizing and documenting MEL-related trainings, meetings, and review sessions.
- Provide logistical support for data quality assessments and evaluations
Qualifications and Skills
- Recently Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, Epidemiology, Information Systems, Development Studies, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation
- Familiarity with Excel and at least one statistical/data visualization tool (SPSS, STATA, R, Power BI, Tableau).

5 Intern – Research and Grant Management
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: Research and Grant Management
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The Intern will provide technical and administrative support to the Research Department in conducting studies, managing data, and contributing to publications and policy briefs. This role offers hands-on exposure to research design, data collection and analysis, knowledge translation, and stakeholder engagement. It is an opportunity to gain practical skills in implementation research, health systems strengthening, and evidence-based policy work while contributing to the Learning Center’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting and compiling study protocols, ethical approval applications, and project reports.
- Identify and apply for grants
- Support data collection activities (interviews, surveys, focus group discussions) and ensure accurate documentation.
- Contribute to data entry, cleaning, and basic analysis using Excel, SPSS, or other relevant software.
- Conduct desk reviews and literature searches to support ongoing projects.
- Help prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for conferences and publications
- Provide logistical and administrative support in organizing research dissemination workshops, stakeholder meetings, and field visits.
- Engage with study participants, partners, and stakeholders to support follow- up communication and coordination.
- Assist in preparing policy briefs and knowledge translation materials for policymakers and other audiences.
- Contribute to resource mobilization activities, including drafting sections of grant proposals.
Qualifications and Skills
- Recently completed Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, Social Sciences, Health Economics, or a related field.
- Strong writing and analytical skills with ability to draft reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Basic understanding of research methods, data management, and ethical considerations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); familiarity with statistical packages (SPSS, STATA, R) will be an added advantage.
- Previous experience in research projects, data collection, or academic writing will be an asset.

6 Intern – Administrative Assistant
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: Research and Grant Management
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Internship (Full-time/Part-time)
Position Overview
The Administrative Assistant Intern will provide essential administrative and clerical support to the Learning Centre for Quality Management (LCQM) team. The intern will assist with office management, documentation, scheduling, and logistical arrangements to ensure smooth operations of the Centre’s activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative support, including filing, photocopying, scanning, and managing correspondence.
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events (preparing agendas, taking minutes, arranging logistics).
- Maintain office supplies and manage inventory.
- Support the preparation and formatting of reports, presentations, and other documents.
- Assist with data entry, record keeping, and maintaining accurate files.
- Help coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for staff and visitors
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as directed by the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures in all administrative tasks.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of a Diploma in Business Administration, Secretarial Studies, Office Management, or any related field.

7 Intern – Information technology (IT)
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Reports to: IT Officer
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension
Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The IT Intern will provide essential technical assistance to the IT team, helping to maintain the organization’s hardware, software, and network infrastructure. This hands-on role is ideal for an individual looking to build practical experience in IT operations, user support, and system administration fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely first-line and second-line technical support to all end-users (staff and volunteers) for hardware, software, and network-related issues via phone, email, or in-person.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with operating systems, desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft 365/Office Suite), and other proprietary software.
- Assist in troubleshooting and maintain peripherals, including printers, scanners.
- Develop and test basic scripts using Python or PowerShell to automate routine system administration tasks (e.g., file cleanup, simple data extracts, user account checks).
- Assist the IT team in responding to and resolving basic technical support requests from staff.
Qualifications and Skills
- Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or Data Science or any related field.
- Basic foundational understanding of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows and/or macOS), and common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office/M365).
- Basic proficiency or strong foundational knowledge of Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in IT support or infrastructure.
- Excellent eagerness to learn and attention to detail
- Good verbal communication skills and a friendly, patient demeanor.
