The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is a University and Centre of Excellence in health education, research, and innovation whose mission is ‘to advance knowledge, professional competencies, skills, and innovations in health sciences through high-quality student-centred and innovative education and research that responds to and influences the global/national policy, health, and development needs in an efficient, sustainable, and result-oriented manner’.
In fulfillment of its vision and as part of its income-generating strategy, the University provides services on a commercial basis at its Clinics, which are situated at Mount Pleasant in Blantyre and Old KCN campus in Lilongwe. These clinics operate as outpatients and have a team of specialist doctors in different areas of medicine.
The University is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to join the Clinic on the following position:
Medical Officer (Blantyre – 1 position)
Position Summary
The Medical Officer will mainly undertake their clinical responsibilities at the KUHeS Student Clinic and occasionally support the Blantyre Clinic. He/she will be expected to conduct themselves in all matters relating to their employment, in accordance with the best practice and relevant ethical and professional standards and guidelines as determined by the Medical Council of Malawi.
Contract Duration
The successful candidate will be offered a two-year contract, which will be subject to renewal upon satisfactory performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting clinical assessment of patients and managing them accordingly
- Providing highest standards of patient/client care
- Undertaking day-to-day management of patients.
- Attending to referred cases from other members of the team.
- Mentoring and supervising other members of the team
- Ensuring timely, appropriate and smooth referral of cases for specialists’ attention.
- Following up and seeking feedback on referral cases.
- Ensuring that there are detailed notes in medical records including proper documentation
- Report writing
Required Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or its equivalent from any institution recognised by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE)
- Registered and in good standing with the Medical Council of Malawi
- At least 2 years post internship work experience
- Flexible to work in a fast growing, and changing environment.
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to work during odd hours
