Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:

DATA CENTRE ENGINEER (GRADE C2) – BASED IN BLANTYRE

Reporting to the Energy and Site Manager, the Data Centre Engineer shall be responsible for ensuring 100% availability of power, air conditioning fire suppression, CCTV, and access control systems for the data centre infrastructure at Limbe TTP, Offices at Livingstone Towers, Blantyre Region Shops, Limbe TTP Complex, and TNM Guesthouses. The position will support the Energy and Site Sharing Manager in all energy and site-sharing matters.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct installation, operation, and maintenance of data centre, offices and shops infrastructure, including generators, AVRs, UPSs, rectifiers, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
    Identify operational risks within the data centre and develop upgrade plans, project charters and budgets.
  • Plan, design, procure, and implement data centre, offices and shops infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the availability of data centre spares and consumables, including repair and return of faulty components and procurement of replacement spares.
  • Develop and execute annual maintenance plans for Data Centre, Offices and shops to ensure 100% availability of cooling and power infrastructure (inverters, Rectifiers, UPSs, generators, and fire suppression systems).
  • Conductacceptance tests for completed CAPEX/OPEX projects.
  • Draws and updates power single line diagrams using AutoCAD.
  • Monitor trends of Data centre ESCOM outages and use of diesel and advise on initiatives to reduce NOE.
  • Supervise a team of Data Centre monitoring technicians.

Education, Professional and Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in installation and maintenance of telecom power systems-both DCand AC (solar, generator, utility, rectifiers, UPS, AVRs, inverters, changeover switches, and battery backup systems).
  • Advanced knowledge of Vertive PDX HVAC cooling systems.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
  • Skills in power systems design, installation, operations, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with data centre operations, energy systems, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Valid driver’s license is highly desirable.
