Malaria Alert Centre (MAC)
The Malaria Alert Centre (MAC), a university research center under the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), is inviting applications from suitably qualified and enthusiastic individuals to fill the position of Research Fellow operating under the International Centre of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) project. The project main goal is to measure the long-term effectiveness of the RTS, S/AS01 malaria vaccine on malaria infection, morbidity, transmission, severe illness and deaths.
POSITION SUMMARY
Working closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs), the Research Fellow will oversee study operations, supervise quality assurance processes, and maintain effective engagement with key stakeholders, including health facility staff, community representatives, and regulatory authorities.
TYPE OF CONTRACT AND DURATION:
The Research Fellow appointment is for a period of 12 months on a project running for four years and is renewable subject to performance and availability of NIH funding.
REPORTING LINE:
The Research Fellow will be reporting to the Principal Investigator.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee study implementation and workflow with support from PIs.
- Ensure all study procedures are developed and implemented according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Ensure that quality check and quality control procedures are in place for all aspects of the study.
- Develop and maintain on-going interest and consultation among all stakeholders: district/ health center staff, community leaders and other interested groups.
- Support the PI on the preparation of progress reports for the Scientific Advisory Committee and funder.
- Take leading role for any audit, inspection or progress reports as required by regulatory bodies and funder(s).
- Lead in the analysis and write up of study results.
- Take a lead in developing own career path by developing independent research questions in the context or outside the current study setting.
- Anticipate and troubleshoot problems that arise during the study
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
- Must have a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) or related field with emphasis on Epidemiology
- Those with MBBS or a PhD in Epidemiology/ Biostatistics will have an added advantage.
- Must have at least 2 years’ experience in research and have a demonstrable interest in pursuing a career in research.
- Self-starter and a multi-tasker who works with minimal supervision and adheres to agreed timelines.
- Ability to communicate in a diverse and international team.
- Willingness to travel and spend time across six rural districts.
