MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT
AMG Global’s Client, Umodzi Holdings Limited, a leading hospitality group with interests in hotels, resorts, and conference centers is looking for a Management Accountant. The position is tenable in Lilongwe, Malawi.
THE POSITION
To provide financial insight and analysis that supports decision-making, budgeting, forecasting and performance management within the Umodzi Park and Resorts. The role reports to the Finance Manager and ensures timely and accurate reporting of financial and operational data to support strategic and operational goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Provide variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. forecast) with insightful commentary.
- Develop KPIs and dashboards to track performance across hotel departments (rooms, food and beverage, banqueting, spa, etc.).
- Assist in preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and internal policies.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accurate financial records.
- Support external audits and provide necessary documentation.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and period forecasts in coordination with department heads.
- Monitor financial performance and assist in revising forecasts based on changing circumstances.
- Support cost centre managers in understanding and managing their budgets.
Cost Control and Profitability:
- Take lead in product costing and pricing decisions.
- Identify and analyze cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
- Monitor key cost areas (e.g., food costs, labour cost, utility consumption, maintenance expenses).
- Conduct profitability analysis of events, room packages, outlets, and convention bookings.
Operational Support:
- Provide real-time financial insights to operational managers to guide business decisions.
- Participate in pricing decisions, capital expenditure evaluations, and strategic initiatives.
- Perform financial modelling for new projects or business cases.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal control procedures and financial policies.
- Support external and internal audits by providing required information and explanations.
- Monitor compliance with tax, VAT, and other statutory obligations.
Systems and Process Improvement:
- Work with IT and Finance teams to enhance financial reporting systems (e.g., PMS, POS, ERP integration).
- Streamline processes for better efficiency in reporting, reconciliation, and documentation.
- Champion automation initiatives for routine finance processes.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure safe custody of all inventory items.
- Take lead in periodic stock counts.
- Ensure proper inventory management systems are in place.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA) or equivalent is a distinct advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial or management accounting, preferably in hospitality or service industry.
- Experience with hotel accounting systems (e.g., Opera, SUN Systems, Micros, Sage).
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
- Knowledge of IFRS and hospitality-specific accounting practices.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail and integrity in handling. financial data.
