CCAP Nkhoma Synod Health Department invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced applicants for the positions of Senior Laboratory Technologist (Grade H) and Chief Radiographer (Grade I) tenable at Nkhoma CCAP Hospital. The Senior Laboratory Technologist position is offered on contract basis, it is a three year (36 months) employment contract subject to renewal based on overall efficiency, conduct and diligence with which the employee is discharging his/her duties as well as the overall performance. While Chief Radiographer position is offered on permanent basis.

SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST – GRADE H

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performing routine and specialized tests in assigned area of the laboratory; interpret tests results
    and correlating laboratory findings with clinical information.
  2. Providing effective and efficient administration of the medical laboratory service, including budgeting, planning and control of resources to match usage and accountability.
  3. Analyzing technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
  4. Supervising and calibrating instruments
  5. Performing and documenting preventative and corrective maintenance, function checks on instruments and equipment.
  6. Performing, evaluating, and documenting quality control data and reporting appropriate results.
  7. Performing instrumentation troubleshooting to correct problems and refer problems appropriately to instrument vendors.
  8. Reviewing, repeating, and verifying laboratory results according to standard operating procedures and reporting critical values or unusual results in accordance with the established policy.
  9. Performing, supporting and following- up lab staff in their daily quality control and corrective action duties.
  10. Assisting with the procurement process and production of quality control sera through hospital set protocol.
  11. Supervising lab staff and being on calls
  12. Updating, revising and generating SOP’s, flowcharts and quality related documents.
  13. Monitoring all work performed in the laboratory department to determine that the reliable data is being generated and documented.
  14. Confirming abnormal results and discrepancies and initiate follow-up to resolve discrepancies.
  15. Documenting quality occurrences in compliance with the quality plan of the department.
  16. Performing tests on proficiency testing samples.
  17. Preparing reagents and solutions in accordance with established guidelines.
  18. Ensuring proper inventory management of supplies to maintain stock levels of needed supplies in all the laboratory areas.
  19. Responding to customer inquiries about laboratory results.
  20. Participating in in-service education programs, training/orientation of new employees, residents, and students, and attending morning handovers.
  21. Participating in the preparation of all inspections by accrediting agencies.
  22. Maintaining confidentiality of patients, families and staff.
  23. Adhering to customer service standards of Hospital and Department.
  24. Preparing and consolidating all data from all laboratory sections and submit to the Director of Clinical Services within the deadline on monthly basis.
  25. Providing educational programs for the medical and laboratory staff and participating in other educational programs of the institution.
  26. Preparing call roster and daily duty roster for all laboratory staff.
  27. Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

B. Education requirements

  1. Applicants should have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or Biomedical Sciences.
  2. Applicants must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
  3. Applicants should have at least five years’ demonstrated work experience in a Medical Laboratory environment.
  4. Those with further postgraduate training will have an added advantage.
