African Parks (AP) is a non-profit organisation that takes on direct responsibility for rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas, in partnership with governments and local communities. By adopting a business approach to conservation, supported by donor funding, African Parks aims to make each park sustainable in the long-term, thereby contributing to economic development and poverty alleviation. Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves and Liwonde National Park.

African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant positions.

Position: Waiter/Waitress

Location: Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve (Navunde Stop Over)
Reporting to : Tourism Manager
Contract : Fixed Term Contract

Job overview

The Waitress will report to the Tourism Manager and will be responsible for all food and beverage services duties.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Cleaning front of house and all front storage facilities.
  • Serving food and beverages to guest.
  • Greet and escort customers to their tables and taking food orders
  • Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies).
  • Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware and glasses.
  • Inform customers about the day’s specials Preparing bills and receiving payment as required by standard operating procedures
  • Arranging restaurant furniture and setting meal tables.
  • Making sure the front of house is always clean, tidy.
  • Staying attentive to the needs of guests in the dining area.
    Ensuring the food order is made correctly by kitchen staff and looks presentable for guests.
  • Following health code standards with regards to the handling of food.
  • Performing shift duties like delivering racks of cups to the service station, rolling silverware, pre-bussing tables, wiping tables and removing debris.
  • Ensure that high standards of food service are consistently maintained
  • Ensuring that all food and service equipment is well taken care off to avoid loss and breakage
  • Making menu recommendations, answering questions and sharing additional information with restaurant patrons.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Relevant food and beverage service diploma
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in a reputable restaurant, those who have worked in a restaurant in a protected area will have an added advantage.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken English.
  • Having proficient computers skills
  • Dependability and team player
  • Attention to details and passion for nature.

Incumbents will be expected to understand the core conservation business
