Lilongwe Water Board

The Lilongwe Water Board, a Statutory Corporation under the Malawi Government, is responsible for the supply and distribution of quality potable water supply potable water and sanitation services to the City of Lilongwe and surrounding areas. The Lilongwe Water Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the vacant positions that exist at its Head Office, Madzi House, off Likuni Road in Lilongwe.

Job Title: Information Technology Officer (Systems Administrator)
Grade: LWB 5
Division : Information Technology (IT)
Reporting to : Senior IT Officer
Responsible for : Assistant IT Officer

Purpose of the job

To implement Information Technology operation programmes.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Configuring and troubleshooting servers, including e-mail, print, and back-up servers and their associated operating systems and software;
  2. Conducting daily analysis of system logs for all servers to identify potential security issues and perform preventive maintenance;
  3. Installing and configuring all network hardware and equipment
  4. Monitoring and analyzing network performance and security across the Board’s LANs, WANs and wireless access points with a view to optimizing performance;
  5. Planning and implementing new network installations, improvement, modification, or replacement of network infrastructure components;
  6. Performing data backups and disaster recovery operations;
  7. Gathering system requirements and specifications from users.
  8. Installing new hardware and providing user training;
  9. Demonstrating outstanding commitment to service delivery programmes of the Board by personally identifying and reporting water bursts/leakages to customer care division of which verifiable repair records shall be tendered to be used as one of the components for assessment during one’s performance appraisal time.
  10. Performing software application installations, upgrades, licensing, documentation and troubleshooting;
  11. Supervising and appraising staff below him or her.

Minimum academic, professional qualifications and work experience

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science
  2. At least 3 years relevant post qualification working experience.
