VACANCY
FINANCE MANAGER
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Finance Manager of the Malawi Accountants Board.
THE ORGANISATION
The Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) is the regulatory body for the accountancy profession in Malawi. It is mandated to provide direct oversight over professional accountancy bodies and auditors to, among others.
- To promote high-quality reporting of financial and non-financial information by entities.
- To promote the highest professional standards among auditors and accountants.
- To enhance the credibility of financial reporting.
- To improve the integrity, competence, and transparency of professional activities in accounting and auditing.
- To improve the quality of accounting and auditing services.
- To protect the financial interests of the general public and investors.
- To adopt and ensure compliance with and the enforcement of applicable local and international accounting and auditing standards.
- To encourage effective collaboration with other regulators.
- To maintain the Register of chartered accountants and diplomate accountants.
- To advise training institutions and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) in matters pertaining to examinations and training of accountants.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB
The Finance Manager is part of MAB’s managerial team. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer; she/ he shall ensure prudent management of finances of MAB and provide advice to management on financial matters.
Specifically, the Finance Manager shall exercise the following duties:
- Ensuring that legal payments and obligations are met as they fall due;
- Supporting the Chief Finance Officer in consolidating annual budgets, monitoring and controlling expenditure patterns of MAB;
- Interpreting company financial plans, policies, regulations and controls;
- Reviewing and maintaining sound financial and accounts management systems;
- Monitoring cash and bank balances;
- Working closely with staff of MAB to ensure good practice in areas of finance and accountability matters;
- Producing statutory financial statements and assisting in handling audit queries;
- Providing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports on the performance of MAB for management information and decision making;
- Timely preparation of monthly management accounts;
- Coordinating revenue collection activities and accounting for collected revenue;
- Devising and implementing approved measures to address cash inflow deficits;
- Ensuring that revenue is deposited in accordance with established procedures;
- Providing information and assistance to internal or external Auditors in times of audit activities;
- Consolidating monthly expenditure returns;
- Providing up-to-date information on expenditure vote balances;
- Checking daily receipts and bank deposits;
- Checking monthly bank reconciliations;
- Maintaining staff debtors ledger;
- Maintaining nominal ledger;
- Preparing monthly trial balance in time;
- Carrying out any other duties relevant to the post.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance is a MUST.
- Professional qualification such as ICAM, CPA, ACCA, CMA).
- Knowledge of local and international accounting practices and relevant laws is a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years in financial management.
- Member of professional accountancy organisation and registered by the Malawi Accountants Board
