Temporary Shop Clerk

On behalf of our client, we invite application from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Shop Clerk. This position is a temporary cover and we are, therefore, looking for people that are readily available for a temporary assignment.

General

The Shop Clerk is responsible for generating income for the organisation through sales.

S/he will report to the Sales Officer and will ensure that the best practice in customer care is exercised at all times so as to promote the image of the organization in general. S/he is the point of contact with the customer and hence has an important objective of helping customers obtain ‘value for money’ while generating incomes for the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

More specifically the Shop Clerk will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Generate sales in the Shop by convincing more customers to buy from the shop he/she operates.
  2. Reconcile all cash receipts with Accounts Office on a daily basis.
  3. Update shop stock records such as ‘bin cards’ and reconcile with physical stocks on a daily basis.
  4. Submit daily sales report to the Sales and Marketing Department
  5. Prepare deposit slips in advance in anticipation of collection of cash by the Accounts Office.
  6. Safe keeping of cash from daily sales until it has been collected by the Accounts Office.
  7. Constantly monitor the performance of products stocked in the shop in terms of sales, and relay this information to the Sales Officer together with orders that will ensure timely stock replenishment by the Sales and Marketing department.
  8. Inform the Sales Officer of any requests for credit sales well in advance before the order is processed. In this regard, the Shop Clerk will not allow any person to buy any product from the shop on credit without written prior authorisation.
  9. On a weekly basis s/he prepares and submits all the required reports to the Sales Officer. These reports are:
    1. Sales Summaries
    2. Stock Movement report
    3. Brief narrative report about competitors’ activities that take place within and around the settlements of his/her target and any other report that might be required by the Sales Officer.
  10. Ensures that the Shop and products stocked within it are kept clean and in prime condition at all times.
  11. Make security checks every morning to ascertain that no part of the interior or exterior of the shop has been tampered with. At close of the working day, he/she closes and locks all the doors and windows before leaving the shop premises.
  12. Maintains a register of frequent buyers (customers), and records any complaint raised by customers and relays this information to the Sales Officer.
  13. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Sales Officer
