Floresta in Malawi is a Christian organisation registered (TRN-LDSBBB) on 19th May 2023 and is a member of the Plant With Purpose Global Partnership. Floresta began its work in 2023 by targeting a few key watersheds in the Viphya Plateau region of northern Malawi because of its steep terrain, deforestation, and level of poverty.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION OFFICER (ERO)

Brief Job Summary

Reporting to:Program Director
Location: Mzuzu Field Office
Positions reporting to the job holder : Field Facilitator /Volunteers

Job Purpose

The ERO Officer reports directly to the Program Director and has the overall responsibility to train communities and monitor the application of agroscological techniques (soil conservation, agroforestry, intensive organic agriculture, conservative agriculture, and soil fertilisation) and environmental protection. The core functions of the position are training in the Regenerative Landscapes for staff, communities and School Clubs on the Environment Core Curriculum (ECC); facilitating Farmer Field Research through Farmer Field School (FFS); and developing education-training modules, program planning (proposal development, budgeting and budget monitoring), implementation, geo-spatial information, data collection, analysis and reporting; as well as designing innovative environmental restoration, value chain initiatives, market linkages and networking with like-minded partners.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A Social Science Degree, Agriculture, or a Degree in Development Studies, Project Management, Rural/Community Development, Social Forestry, Natural Resources Management. A postgraduate degree is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate the ability to direct and guide others efficiently and productively.
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, excellent organisation, communication, and writing skills (reporting, documentation, and publicity).
  • Good teamwork and networking skills.
  • A class B driver’s/Motorcycle license is a must.
  • Three years of proven experience in a similar position and programming setting.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS and Excel is an added advantage.
