Position: Impact officer
Reports to: Country Director
Hours: Full-time
Location: Mponela/Nkhotakota
Term: 1 year renewable

Overview of Role
buildOn seeks a dynamic development professional to coordinate the collection and submission of the marketing and M&E content of its programs in Malawi. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in Monitoring & Evaluation, Storyline, Communication and Education sector analysis. Reporting to the Country Director, the Impact Officer will be an integral part of the Country team engaging strategic initiatives to strengthen the M&E and collaborating with buildOn’s Experience Team (Marketing & Data).

This is a great opportunity for someone with a commitment to working directly with local communities for sustainable development. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the field where the need is most compelling. The

Impact Officer will be both comfortable working on project activities in rural remote areas and on high level projects in with the buildOn Country team and the local partners.

Primary roles and Responsibilities

The Impact Officer will ensure consistency and compliance with the Monitoring & Evaluation processes as well as the quality and timeliness of all required contents for Marketing and Donor Stewardship.

Marketing/Donor Stewardship

  • Monitor Smugmug account and work with the country team to ensure all photos are of good quality and uploaded timely.
  • Take regular photos and upload in the relevant albums: priority will be given to baseline photos, completion photos, required photos for adult lit. and Enroll and any special photos requested for donor reports. (The program teams will still be primarily responsible for the other project photos.)
  • Train/coach members of the program teams in techniques to take high quality photos.
  • Lead the collection of impact stories with support from other members of the program teams (Field Coordinators, Education Officers, etc.). Design interview guides when needed for the collection of stories and donor reports.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Monitor the internal data system (Salesforce) to ensure all required data are submitted and updated timely and consistently. Timely communicate to the Country Director any missing data and make plans for the collection of the data.
  • Communicate with the Data team and the Country Director any technical arrangements needed.
  • Review and audit the monthly KPIs before validation by the Country Director.
  • Conduct the onboarding training of the field staff on the use of the buildOn data system (Salesforce), on the data submission timelines and the quality of the digital content.
  • Organize data collection and track the Indicators of the Enroll program:
    • Ensure the baseline data is consistently collected for all beneficiary communities.
    • Plan and lead the data collection process. Design the data collection tools (e.g. discussion guides for the focus groups).
    • Work with the Education Manager to organize the data collection, review and audit the data collected before the review, and then submit to the Country Director.
    • Assist the Management in designing the sensitization and advocacy tools (pictures for banners, videos, and other media contents for sensitization and advocacy).
  • Use the M&E findings to suggest strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of programs. (Strategies can include the elimination of bottlenecks, the identification and scale of best practices, and recommended adaptation of strategies and tactics to achieve goals.)
  • Develop case studies to capture qualitative outputs, outcomes and impacts of the projects.
  • Work with the Country Director to draft annual reports.
  • Partner with Impact Officers from other countries to form an Advisory group to make recommendations to the Global leadership team based on good practices and lessons learned across countries.

Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development Studies, community development, Data/Statistics or any relevant topics.
  • English fluency (spoken and written) and Local languages are required.
  • Understand how projects work. This includes the results hierarchy, indicators, the project design; typical challenges of rural development projects; roles and responsibilities of people involved; and reporting requirements. Be able to turn data into information, and information into insight.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data with a focus on Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • Good communication skills to clearly explain the project and the approach to M&E, and for disseminating information about progress and project results. Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal and group communication skills.
  • Motorcycle driver’s license and experience is a MUST
