buildon is a not for profit organization that is working to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. For the past two decades, buildOn partnered with rural communities to build more than 2900 school blocks in some of the economically poorest countries on the planet. There are more than 300,000 children, parents and grandparents attending buildOn schools every day. To build those schools, community members have contributed over 5 million volunteer workdays. buildOn Malawi would like to engage the services of Field Coordinator tenable at its Mponela or Nkhotakota Offices
Position: Field Coordinator
Reports to : Construction Manager
Hours: Full-time
Location: Mponela/Nkhotakota
Term: 1 year renewable
Job Description and Responsibilities
The Field coordinator shall be responsible for the following:
- Represent buildOn’s mission and objectives in the village and regional level, conforming to all policies and practices of the organization.
- Coordinate with DDC, VDC, DEO and NGO/ INGOs for school construction processes.
- Select Sites in line with buildOn’s methodology for potential school construction.
- Mobilize the Project Leadership Committee and village leaders to participate in all aspects of the construction process.
- Coordinate and ensure quality materials are transported from the point of purchase to the village.
- Monitoring day to day building construction work by skilled labourers and ensuring all the works in the field are going efficiently according to the buildOn methodology and plan.
- Prepare Key Performance Indicators and reports for on-going construction work.
- Participate in project book-keeping, reporting and inventory logs.
- Take and upload good quality construction progress and completion pictures into the organizations’ database.
- Ensure application and adherence of Environmental Health and Safety standards across the worksites.
- Prepare contractual agreements and payments for skilled labour.
Required Qualifications, Skills and competencies
The eligible candidate should possess the following :
- A Malawi school certificate of Education with credits in Mathematics and English
- Grade one Trade Test & Craft
- Construction Technician Diploma administered by City and Guilds will be an added advantage.
- Motorcycle driver’s license and experience is a MUST
Skills
- Fluent in both English and Chichewa /local languages
- Good planning and organization skills.
- Project Management
- Good interpersonal and writing communication skills.
