The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi.
ESCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions currently existing in the Optic Fiber Directorate of the Corporation.
Senior Engineer – Operations (1 Position)
Grade: ES6
Location: Blantyre
Supervised by : Chief Engineer Operations
Purpose of the Job
To ensure continuous and secure network operations by monitoring performance, responding to incidents, enforcing processes and proactively resolving issues.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Overseeing network performance using NOC tools to detect and resolve issues proactively.
- Ensuring 24/7 network availability and responding to alerts in real-time.
- Analyzing network traffic patterns to identify potential bottlenecks or anomalies.
- Acting as the first point of contact for network-related incidents and outages.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
- Planning and executing network upgrades to improve performance and scalability.
- Ensuring compliance with change management processes to minimize disruptions.
- Implementing access controls and encryption protocols to protect sensitive data.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining detailed records of network configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
- Generating performance reports and trend analyses to identify areas for improvement.
- Documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for NOC operations.
- Providing technical guidance and support to cross-functional teams.
Attributes and competencies
- Proficient in core networking protocols (e.g., TCP/P, BGP, OSPF, MPLS) and technologies.
- Skilled in using network monitoring tools and managing firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers.
- Strong ability to analyse network data, identity trends, and resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Capable of clearly conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in either Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science
- 4 Years relevant work experience
- Registered Engineer with MEI/ICTAM
- Certification in Network security shall be an added advantage
