EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence-based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 177 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) – funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.

Job Description

The  Temporary Electronics Artisan is an experienced, primarily field-based position with a focus on electronics repair and job site execution and process improvement. The position requires Solar Photovoltaic knowledge, extensive experience performing similar work in the residential and commercial sectors, strong communication, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to work overtime and in remote areas. The Artisan will be responsible for executing tasks assigned by the HIS Zonal Coordinator, maintaining a clean work environment, and interacting in a friendly manner with end users.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

  • Troubleshoot, Repair, Maintain and calibrate all project hardware ranging from Inverters, POS units, Servers, Printers etc.
  • Document all improvements and changes to reflect status of the power logic in facilities. i.e. circuit and block diagrams
  • Install photovoltaic systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified.
  • Accurately layout and install solar racking systems per design on roof mounted systems.
  • Mount and wire PV modules per specified design.
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in photovoltaic system installation or materials.
  • Installation of Inverters.
  • Program, adjust, or configure inverters and controls for desired set points and operating modes.
  • Installation of battery systems.
  • Wiring of the Power backup system from Solar panels to Inverters to batteries and clearly labeling all cables and DBs.
  • Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency.
  • Trunking and cabling works for PV power systems
  • New Systems commissioning and old systems decommissioning
  • Adhere to daily and weekly schedules for project activities under the direction of the Senior Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Certificate in Electrical and Electronics engineering, Instrumentations or Renewable Energy
  • Hands on Experience in Electrical installation works. Those with experience of Solar PV Systems will have an added advantage
  • Solid knowledge of MERA electrical practices and standards. MERA certification is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Site safety practices and standards
  • Visual thinker good at problem solving and implementing ideas
  • Experience operating hand and power tools, soldering and fault-testing equipment.
