EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence-based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 177 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) – funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.
Job Description
The Temporary Systems Engineer is an experienced, primarily field-based position with a focus on job site execution and process improvement. The position requires Server Administration knowledge, extensive experience performing similar work in a busy and demanding environment, strong communication, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to work overtime and in remote areas. The engineer will be responsible for executing tasks assigned by the Senior Power Hardware Engineer, maintaining a clean work environment, and interacting in a friendly manner with end users.
No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?
- Lead and oversee all installation, configuration, support, and troubleshooting of all data center and virtualized environment-related issues.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the data center design and architecture.
- Identify gaps and suggest improvements to ensure optimally performing services hosted in the data center.
- Follow up on all reported data center issues and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner.
- Effectively monitor all services in the data center to ensure high availability and minimize downtime.
- Schedule server and data center updates on all systems, ensuring optimal performance after updates.
- Report and follow up with service providers on third-party-related issues.
- Provide overall solutions to all server and data center infrastructure-related issues logged by the Service Desk.
- Plan maintenance of all IT infrastructure and ensure it is carried out according to established guidelines.
- Conduct daily reviews of fault/incident logs to identify recurring issues.
- Carry out user management and administration work on the MOH domain in accordance with approved access levels.
- Conduct security checks on the MOH server and data center infrastructure in conjunction with IT Security to ensure compliance.
- Manage and enforce Cybersecurity policies and practices to protect data and infrastructure from threats and vulnerabilities.
- Participate in project implementation as assigned.
- Ensure that operating systems and other software products are installed and configured according to IT best practice standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in computer science, information technology or related technical discipline or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience with VMWare, KVM Virtualization solution and Veeam Backup and replication.
- 5+ years of experience with Datacentre Monitoring.
- 5+ years of experience with Server Virtualization.
- 5+ years of experience with services such as DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, FTP, HTTPS.
Additional Information
- Subject matter expert experience installing, maintaining, and configuring Virtual environment and Storage Systems.
- Working experience in a maintenance role in a similar environment and dealt with continuous maintenance and support.
- Experience in Datacentre Preventative Maintenance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of OpenStack and Proxmox will be an added advantage
