Position: Paralegal Officer

About CSP
The Church and Society Programme (CSP) is the advocacy arm of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, advancing human rights, justice, peace, and democracy in Malawi. CSP also provides paralegal services, including mediation and legal advisory support to vulnerable communities.
With funding from Tilitonse Foundation, CSP is implementing a project to enhance access to justice for women, girls, and marginalized groups by strengthening institutional policies, staff capacity, and strategic plan execution. This project includes support for a Paralegal Officer to expand CSP’s impact.
Position Summary:
The Paralegal Officer will deliver legal aid services, conduct community outreach, and strengthen legal capacity for vulnerable groups.
This role advances CSP’s mission to improve access to justice and uphold human dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and support to victims of human rights abuses.
- Conduct legal research, investigations, and document preparation.
- Monitor legislative developments and ensure CSP’s compliance.
- Lead community legal awareness campaigns and mobile clinics.
- Collaborate with lawyers, traditional leaders, and justice stakeholders.
- Train community paralegals and support alternative dispute resolution.
- Maintain case records and contribute to program reports.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Law/Paralegal Studies (2+ years’ NGO/legal aid experience) OR
- Certificate in Legal Studies (4+ years’ relevant experience).
- Strong knowledge of Malawian legal frameworks; Tumbuka proficiency is an advantage.
Skills: Research, case management, communication, and community engagement, Microsoft packages including excel
