Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) is a professional membership body representing Human Resource Practitioners in Malawi. IPMM is a non-profit making organization, registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act, to promote professionalism, standards, and ethics in Human Resources Management in Malawi.

IPMM invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the vacant position of Accountant tenable in Blantyre, at IPMM secretariat.

ACCOUNTANT

Main purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate shall contribute to prudent financial management practices for IPMM by ensuring adherence to internal controls, approved accounting standards and other supporting policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual and special projects budgets
  • Prepare Accounts and associated reports
  • Prepare monthly expenditure reports versus approved budgets and prepare variance reports
  • Issue membership invoices and making payments follow-ups
  • Handle Creditors and Debtors assignments, including account reconciliations.
  • Monitor Investments in money markets and handle reconciliations/reports
  • Prepare and remit in a timely manner, medical scheme premiums, pension contributions, payroll and other taxes
  • Receive and timely deposit funds, follow up direct bank deposits to trace depositor details and reconcile accordingly.
  • Issue in a timely manner invoices for rented premises
  • Assist in making investment placement decisions
  • Ensure all financial transactions are well documented, supported, and filed for use during audit assignments
  • Work with the Administration Officer in arranging Asset insurance, making sure that loss/damage claims are timely lodged and followed up to their successful completion.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree in Accounting obtained from an accredited and recognized institution
  • Those with ACCA or studying towards final stages will have an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in accounting and finance in a busy multitasking work environment
  • Professional membership to ICAM
  • Solid knowledge of International Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards.
    Sound knowledge of Taxation Act of Malawi Desired Attributes
  • Numerical and Analytical skills
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate and proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and power point
  • High level of Integrity.
