AMARI DAIRY COOPERATIVE
Amari Dairy Cooperative is inviting suitable applications for the position of Farm Manager to support the farm’s implementation of day to day activities at its farm which is at Chimsikidzi village, TA Khongoni in Lilongwe, about 74 kilometres from Gateway Mall along Lilongwe – Santhe Road.
Key responsibilities:
The Farm Manager will among others, be responsible for the following:
- Managing the dairy herd’s overall health, well-being, and productivity. This includes monitoring and maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of the barns, ensuring proper nutrition and feeding practices, and overseeing breeding and calving.
- Managing herd health through vaccinations, veterinary care, and disease prevention.
- Monitoring and optimizing milk production by ensuring proper milking procedures, overseeing milk quality control measures, implementing efficient milk storage and handling practices, and managing the milking equipment and facilities.
- Staff Management:- facilitate hiring, training, and supervising farm employees.
- Budgeting and financial planning for the farm.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records related to animal health, milk production, breeding, finances, and other farm operations.
- Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and upgrading of farm buildings, milking equipment, machinery, and other infrastructure.
- Ensuring compliance with local, and national regulations related to dairy farming, animal welfare, environmental protection, food safety, and labor laws. Staying updated with industry standards and implementing necessary changes to meet regulatory requirements.
- Coordinating the cultivation and harvesting of forage crops for animal feed.
- Identifying opportunities for farm growth and expansion, exploring new markets, establishing relationships with suppliers and buyers, and implementing strategies to improve farm efficiency and competitiveness.
- Implementing and enforcing safety protocols to ensure the well-being of farm personnel, animals, and visitors.
- Preparing activity reports for submission to the Executive Committee of the group
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Amari Executive committee.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate must have:
- A minimum of a diploma in animal science, dairy science, animal production and health or a related field from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture Natural Resources or its equivalent. A degree in these field will be an added advantage
- Strong animal husbandry skills. This includes knowledge of breeding and genetics, nutrition and feeding practices, herd health management, and reproduction techniques.
- Must be a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders at different levels
- Effective managerial skills are essential for overseeing farm operations and leading a team.
- Financial management skills to understand the financial aspects of the dairy farm business.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records.
- Problem-solving and adaptability skills.
- A genuine passion for dairy farming and a strong work ethic.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in a similar position
- Willingness to stay and work in a rural area
