Job summary
The Clinic Nurse position is responsible to and receives directions from the Nursing Officer and in her or his absence, the Chief Nursing Officer
The Clinic Nurse will carry out all aspects of blood collection activities, including the selection and care of blood donors, phlebotomy, providing pre- and post-donation advice, and promoting blood donation
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Enrolled Nurse/Midwife/Nurse Midwife Technician
- Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
- Two years’ work experience in a busy hospital
- Good communication skills
- Good team spirit contributing to a successful team
- Quality awareness and good customer care skills
- Ability to perform venipuncture
Description of Tasks
- Prepares the clinic in good time for the arrival of donors, ensuring that all the resources are available using the checklist.
- Maintains a safe environment and ensures that safety procedures are followed
- Supervises and participates in arranging of equipment and ensuring their safety
- Recruit blood donors and educate in line with the Standard Operating procedure
- Registers blood donors by capturing all information and providing all information required according to the Standard Operating Procedure
- Carries out basic physical checks on blood donors, including weight checks, hemoglobin level, Blood pressure and pulse rate and documents accordingly.
- Carries out confidential assessment (risk behaviour interview) with potential donors
- Proficient in conducting Phlebotomy
- Provides post-donation care and advice.
