Banyan Global is recruiting a highly skilled Qualitative Evaluation Methods Expert to join a team of political economy analysis experts to conduct a Political Economy Analysis (PEA). The ideal candidate will have conducted or participated in a PEA or evaluation for USAID Missions previously and have a strong background in evaluation methodologies, particularly within the context of political and economic systems rights, and governance. The candidate will be responsible for designing the PEA framework, data collection and analysis plan.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and reporting. The position is open to Malawian Nationals only.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on evaluation best practices, ensuring methodological rigor and adherence to USAID and ethical standards.
  • Design a data collection and analysis plan for the PEA.
  • Develop data collection tools based on the data collection plan.
  • Lead data collection as directed by the PEA team leader and in accordance with the data collection plan.
  • Arrange and organize the fieldwork agenda, including individual meetings and focus group discussions.
  • Lead data analysis (mainly qualitative) according to the data collection and analysis plan.
  • Support the preparation of detailed reports, policy briefs, presentations, and any other communication products on findings and recommendations from the PEA.
  • Support dissemination of PEA findings and critical messages to segmented target audiences.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests related to the assignment from the Team Leader.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience supporting qualitative evaluations, assessments, and research especially in the democracy, rights, and governance sector.
  • Knowledge of USAID evaluation standards and procedures.
  • Experience with at least 2 USAID evaluations.
  • Strong qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Strong proficiency in qualitative data analysis, including experience with relevant software (e.g., NVivo).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in conducting research, preparing reports, and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
  • Good qualitative data visualization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
