The Company is looking for a suitably qualified person of Malawian origin to take up the position of SHERQ Coordinator at its Nchalo depot.

Purpose summary of the Job

Reporting to the Contract Manager, the successful candidate will include: –

  • Responsible for implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, among others, and ensure that they are entrenched into the business processes.
  • Develop SHEQ system procedures and template documents.
    Enforce standardization and implementation on all sites.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, logging and tracking audit findings.
  • Arrange and prepare documentation for SHEQ management review meetings and conduct awareness training on SHEQ non-conformances and management programmes.
  • Log and control revision status of all procedures and maintain a document control register and the SHEQ electronic database.

Minimum Requirements, experience and skills

Suitable candidates should have the following:

  • Degree in Social Sciences or other related discipline
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • No previous criminal records.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills inciuding report writing
  • Must be computer literate.

Duties and Tasks

The position will focus primarily on the following:

  • To ensure compliance to verification audits at all sites of operation in terms of the company’s audit protocol which is designed to complement our customer’s requirements, legal registers and the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Conduct predefined internal audits on selected sites and identify the course of action of the operation so that its SHEQ related resources are used optimally and ensure compliance with the contractual agreements.
  • Measure the level of SHEQ effectiveness and take action to remedy sub-standard performance or improve existing levels of performance
  • Conduct pre- and post- audit meetings to ensure a clear understanding of the audit requirements and findings
  • Coordinate teams in multiple industries
  • Implement, drive and manage the SHEQ culture at multiple depots
  • Conduct checks on selected individual risks
  • Participate in accident process against company requirement
  • Implement depot emergency procedures and preparedness
  • Implement client and SHEQ requirements and protocols
  • Oversee the inspection of machinery and equipment, such as vehicles, plant and machinery to ensure they meet appropriate safety regulations.
  • Carry out investigations based on accidents and unsafe working conditions, identify root causes, study possible causes and take remedial action.
  • Conduct training sessions for all supervisors and workers on health and safety practices legislation, induction and safe working procedures.
  • Monitor all administrative processed i.e. documentation, registers, reports and compensation claims regarding occupational injury and diseases.
  • Capture all supplied information on electronic system.
  • Identify hazards and risks, report to SHEQ Manager and provide mitigation measures
  • Assist with appointments, SHEQ system maintenance, audits and accreditations.
  • Assist in the review / updating of policy and procedures
  • Assist in the event of a crisis.

The job also requires knowledge and understanding of:

  • Malawi Labour legislation
  • Health and Safety legislation and procedures
  • The relevant computer software
  • Organizational management systems, including policies and procedures (Range: Management systems include financial, administrative, operational & Human Resource systems.
