Mzuzu University (MZUNI) is a Public University established by the Laws of Malawi Cap 30:09 (Mzuzu University Act No. 12 of 1997). Currently, the University has six faculties of Education; Environmental Sciences; Health Sciences; Tourism, Hospitality and Management; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a dual mode University offering its courses through face-to-face and open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) teaching and learning modes. It also offers some of its programmes on block, week-end and vacation release.
The University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:
Vacancy No 1: Materials Production Specialist
The Materials Production Specialist will report to the Director of Open, Distance and e-Learning. He/she will be responsible for coordinating production of materials to be used by ODeL students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaising with the Director of ODeL on identification of writers and editors for ODeL materials;
- Determining the technical specification of machines, equipment and systems required for printing and publishing learning materials;
- Drawing up budgets for all requirements in the materials production section;
- Overseeing the whole process of cleaning up and printing or uploading online ODeL materials;
- Converting face-to-face modules to online lessons;
- Ensuring proper maintenance of e-learning systems;
- Designing innovative ODeL instructional modes;
- Producing yearly schedules of ODeL materials;
- Drawing timeframes and arranging for the editing and typesetting of ODeL materials; and
- Advising the Centre on copyright issues of all materials produced.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education obtained from a reputable and accredited institution of higher learning. Those with a relevant master’s degree will have an added advantage;
- Adequate knowledge of computer applications; and
- At least three (3) years’ experience in organising the production of learning materials to printing and uploading online.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to edit or update faculty support online platforms;
- Adequate knowledge Microsoft Office software and online learning platforms;
- Strong technical writing skills and experience in developing training materials;
- Familiarity with graphic design elements appropriate for online instruction and learning;
- Ability to work as a member of a team;
- Good communication skills; and
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet given deadlines.
