The National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF) is a government – owned Microfinance Institution whose mission is to economically empower ordinary and underserved Malawians particularly women, youth, and persons with disability through the provision of quality, affordable, and sustainable microfinance services for improved livelihoods.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT (GRADE NF5)-ONE (1) POSITION

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the role is to provide financial reports to a wide range of stakeholders and processing financial information for financial reporting while maintaining a sound control environment.

The Financial Accountant shall be reporting to the Finance Manager.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the designing and implementation of effective internal control systems.
  2. Timely processing of financial transactions for timely preparation and submission of various financial reports.
  3. Timely preparation of general ledger and loan portfolio reconciliations.
  4. Oversee preparation of daily cashflows and liquidity monitoring.
  5. Timely prepare working papers and draft financial statements in readiness for external audit.
  6. Produce reports in compliance with the company policy, regulatory and statutory requirements while adhering to strict deadlines.
  7. Preparation and timely submission of income tax returns.
  8. Offer leadership and supervision to financial accounting staff.

Qualification and Experience

  1. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited University.
  2. Professional qualification like ACCA or CIMA.
  3. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a comparable position in busy financial institution.
  4. A good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS).
  5. Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills.

  1. Good Interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy.
  2. In-depth understanding of the NEEF business & Microfinance Services.
  3. Highly attentive to detail with excellent Organisational, planning skills and documentation skills.
  4. Effective supervising, leading and delegating tasks and authority.
  5. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
  6. Be adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments.
  7. Excellent understanding of the Financial Services and Microfinance regulations, laws and standards.
