The National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF) is a government – owned Microfinance Institution whose mission is to economically empower ordinary and underserved Malawians particularly women, youth, and persons with disability through the provision of quality, affordable, and sustainable microfinance services for improved livelihoods.

FINANCE MANAGER (GRADE MF4)- ONE (1) POSITION

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the role is to provide financial reports to a wide range of stakeholders and interpreting financial information to management while maintaining a sound control environment.

The Finance Manager shall be reporting to the Head of Finance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform Financial management duties including maintaining sound internal control systems, timely preparation of management accounts, and prepare general ledger and bank reconciliations.
  2. Oversee operations of the finance department that transactions are processed efficiently.
  3. Conduct regular assessment of the Fund’s financial procedures leading to creation and review of policies while ensuring best practices are adopted all the time.
  4. Take charge the Fund’s compliance with Reserve Bank of Malawi regulatory reporting.
  5. Preparation and timely submission of income tax returns and timely remittance of all types of taxes
  6. Take charge of the annual external audit process and ensure timely preparation of the Fund’s Annual Financial Statements.
  7. Assist the Head of Finance with planning & budgeting, preparation of Alco packs and Board report.
  8. Supervise staff in the Finance department recruiting, training and conducting regular assessment and coaching of the team.

Qualification and Experience

  1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited University.
  2. Professional qualification like ACCA or CIMA.
  3. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a comparable senior position in busy financial institution.
  4. A good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS).
  5. Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills.

  1. Good Interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy.
  2. In-depth understanding of the NEEF business & Microfinance Services.
  3. Highly attentive to detail with excellent Organisational, planning skills and documentation skills.
  4. Effective supervising, leading and delegating tasks and authority.
  5. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
  6. Be adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments.
  7. Excellent understanding of the Financial Services and Microfinance regulations, laws and standards.
