Lilongwe Water Board

The Lilongwe Water Board is a Statutory Corporation established in 1947 and re- constituted under the Water Works Act (Cap 72). It is responsible for the provision of water supply services to the City of Lilongwe and surrounding areas designated as its supply area. The Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant positions on Temporary basis.

HEAD WORKS FOREMAN
Reporting to the Plant Engineer, the Head Works Foreman will be responsible for the following:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Carry out the day-to-day operations, surveillance, and inspections, of dam related infrastructure to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
  2. Updating and implementing an operation and maintenance plans to meet safety requirements.
  3. Monitor and control the release of water to support public uses downstream.
  4. Maintain high standards in the practices and procedures in evaluation of existing dams planning, implementation, operation, maintenance, and emergency preparedness.
  5. Assisting in performing periodic Safety Evaluation of Existing Dams, inspections and notifying management of the inspection findings.
  6. Assist in implementing Standing Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plans
  7. Ensuring that all of the monitoring and recording of dam instrumentation data is complete and up to date.
  8. Coordinating and supervising the Dam Safety programme management processes, which are dam surveillance, data collection and evaluation.
  9. Participating in undertaking of Dam Safety Management audits and coordinating routine dam safety inspection processes and activities in compliance with the SOP manual.
  10. Preparing dam safety reports detailing dams status or condition.
  11. Carrying out operation of the water abstraction, production and transmission with prescribed standards.
  12. Conduct daily checks on the on performance of the water production system
  13. Maintaining general cleanliness of the water production premises
  14. Preparing daily operational data.
  15. Reporting or attending to faults from dams or water treatment plant.
  16. Demonstrating outstanding commitment to service delivery programs of the Board by personally identifying and reporting water bursts/leakages to customer care Division of which verifiable repair records shall be used during performance appraisal as one of the components to be assessed for time;

Minimum academic and professional qualifications and work experience

A minimum of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related fields with three (3) years experience in dam safety management. Must be Safety focused and able to follow corrective measures with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
