  1. LECTURER IN INTERNAL MEDICINE 

Grade : KU6

Department : School of Medicine and Oral Health Sciences
Responsible to : Head of Internal Medicine Department

Purpose of the Job 

To deliver academic programmes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Participating in the development and review of curriculum;
  • Developing and reviewing teaching and learning materials; ∙ Providing effective tuition, assessment and supervision to students at  various levels;
  • Initiating and undertaking research projects, consultancies and  outreach activities;
  • Developing, adopting and adapting various new technologies and  concepts in teaching and learning;
  • Providing clinical service and supervision
  • Participating in developing and implementing resource mobilization  strategies;
  • Supporting in mentoring assistant lecturers;
  • Representing the Department in various fora;
  • Publishing and disseminating research results;
  • Preparing and submitting reports.

Minimum Education, Qualifications and Experience 

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent Professional qualification in Internal  Medicine;
  • 3 years’ relevant work experience;
  • Registered with relevant professional body.
  1. LECTURER IN NEONATAL HEALTH (1 POSITION). 

Grade : KU6

Department : School of Maternal, Neonatal and Reproductive  Health

Responsible to : Head of Neonatal Health Department

Purpose of the Job 

To deliver academic programmes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Participating in the development and review of curriculum;
  • Developing and reviewing teaching and learning materials; ∙
  • Providing effective tuition, assessment and supervision to students at  various levels;
  • Initiating and undertaking research projects, consultancies and  outreach activities;

  1. ASSISTANT LECTURER IN NEONATAL HEALTH (2 POSITIONS) Grade : KU7

Department : School of Nursing

Responsible to : Head of Academic Department

Purpose of the Job 

To support delivery of academic programmes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Supporting teaching and learning;
  • Supervising students;
  • Conducting research;
  • Providing clinical service and supervision;
  • Providing effective tutorials to students;
  • Developing, adopting and adapting various new technologies and  concepts in teaching and learning;
  • Preparing and submitting reports.

Minimum Education, Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least a credit in Midwifery, Nursing and  Midwifery or Nursing with a Certificate in Midwifery.
  • Registered with the relevant professional body.
  • Malawian citizenship or permanent residents in Malawi
  1. LECTURER IN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (2 POSITIONS). 

Grade : KU6

Department : School of Maternal, Neonatal and Reproductive  Health

Responsible to : Head of Reproductive Health Department

Department : School of Nursing

  1. CLINICAL SKILLS LABORATORY SUPERVISOR 

Job Title : Clinical Skills Laboratory Supervisor

Grade : KU9

Location : Teaching and Learning Development Centre

Responsible to : Head of Midwifery Department

Purpose of the Job 

To facilitate clinical skills training using the resources available within the clinical  skills laboratories

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Managing skills laboratory bookings and allocations including seeking  approvals and documenting;
  • Collaborating with Lecturers in Clinical Education and relevant  departments in managing the clinical skills laboratory to ensure efficient  usage and access for students; and adequate stock of equipment and  supplies;
  • Setting up skills laboratory for clinical skills practice classes as required;
  • Distributing necessary learning materials to students;
  • Maintaining safety and cleanliness in the clinical skills laboratories at all  times;
  • Providing technical support to staff and students in clinical skills as may  be required;
  • Preparing reports.

Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Nursing and Midwifery or equivalent ∙ 2 years’ relevant professional experience gained through working in a  clinical setting
  1. LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST (1 POSITION)  

Grade : KU8

Department : School of Medicine and Oral Health

Responsible to : Head of Pathology Department

Purpose of the Job 

To conduct next generation sequencing and contribute to academic  programmes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Execute and optimize next generation sequencing (NGS) protocols for  DNA and RNA sequencing applications, including library preparation,  target enrichment, and sequencing runs.
  • Perform sample quality control assessments using various analytical  methods and instruments.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and  ensure proper functioning of NGS platforms and associated  instrumentation.
  • Document experimental procedures, data analysis, and results in  laboratory notebooks and electronic databases with meticulous  attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design experiments,  interpret sequencing data, and contribute to research projects and  clinical assays.
  • Adhere to strict laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory  requirements to ensure compliance with quality standards and best  practices.
  • Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and skill  development activities to stay abreast of emerging technologies and  advancements in genomics and NGS methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new protocols,  workflows, and automation strategies to enhance laboratory  efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist in the validation of new assays, reagents, and software tools, and  participate in quality assurance and quality control activities. ∙ To liaise with academic staff on timetables, equipment requirements  and work plans for students’ laboratory experiments
  • To run pre-lab experiments before classes and then demonstrate  techniques for experiments.
  • To support the work of the lecturer in classes and laboratory sessions  and give technical advice to staff and students.
  • To work with individual students and support them on research projects ∙ Maintain inventory of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies,  and assist in procurement and management of resources as needed.

Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience 

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory  Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology or a Science related degree with 3 years of working experience in a similar  position.

Key skills and competencies 

  • ∙ Proficiency in NGS techniques and methodologies, including library  preparation, library QC, and data analysis.
  • ∙ Ability to perform common laboratory techniques such as PCR, qPCR,  gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid extraction.
  • ∙ Familiarity with laboratory automation systems and liquid handling  robots
