Phata Sugarcane Outgrowers Cooperative has a 600-hectare irrigated sugarcane scheme in Chikwawa District. The cooperative belongs to 1150 members and it is being managed in partnership with Agricane Malawi Limited. The Cooperative is looking for experienced personnel to fill in the following positions:

Assistant General Manager

The incumbent will report to the General Manager while assisting him but not being limited to, in:

• Strategic planning and decision-making processes.
• Coordinate day-to-day operations, including overseeing staff and ensuring efficient workflow.
• Developing and implementing policies and procedures to improve organizational effectiveness.
• Collaborating with department heads to ensure alignment of activities with cooperative objectives.
• Managing financial activities, including budgeting, financial reporting, and monitoring expenditure.
• Facilitating communication between members, management, and external stakeholders.
• Identifying opportunities for growth and development, both within the cooperative and in the broader market.
• Represent the cooperative in meetings, negotiations, and other interactions with external parties.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Qualifications and experience:

• Minimum BSc in Agriculture; Social Science or Business administration
• At least 5 years of experience in project management of donor funded projects (preferably but not limited to agricultural or livelihoods projects)
• At least 5 years experience in Community mobilisation; community or rural development; Capacity Building/Extension of Smallholder Farmers
• Knowledge of and experience in implementation of institutional and organisational development of smallholder farmer organisations
• Experience in the sugarcane industry and/or agricultural irrigation will be an added advantage but not a pre-requisite.
• Willingness to work and live in a rural setting
