ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This job will be based in the Malawi Country Office in Lilongwe, within the Supply Chain Unit’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Team. The position will report to the Logistics Officer in charge of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Team.
At this level, job holders demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance for all assistance modalities for both WFP and logistics common services. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide specialized support to the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Logistics Team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1.    Provide support to logistics emergency preparedness and response activities, supporting the National Logistics Cluster, preparedness, and emergency response activities when/where required.
2.    Utilise logistics and supply chain expertise to assist with project design, including coordination and implementation of capacity development activities, such as trainings in warehouse management, commodity tracking, and logistics best practices.
3.    Produce high quality training materials, presentations, and reports for emergency preparedness activities.
4.    Develop concept notes, provide reporting inputs, and produce well written documents as needed.
5.    Prepare, monitor, and revise budgets for emergency preparedness activities.
6.    Monitor project timelines and provide project management support to ensure deliverables are on time, high quality, and completed with proper documentation and advanced planning.
7.    Identify, resolve and/or provide recommendations on specialised queries/requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of inquiries with excellent client service mind-set.
8.    Support assessments and contingency planning activities as needed to support logistics response in emergencies.
9.    Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support efficient logistics preparedness and operations management.
10.    All other duties as required.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.    Self-starter with the ability to independently manage deadlines and activity progress.
2.    Strong public speaking skills and deep interest in leading logistics trainings.
3.    Excellent writing skills and ability to independently develop concept notes and donor reports.
4.    Experience liaising with government stakeholders and other partners.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

•    Experience in supply chain and logistics, including familiarity with warehouse management systems, commodity tracking, and supply chain planning.
