TEVET Authority

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority is a regulatory body that was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to regulate, facilitate and promote TEVETin Malawi. Apart from the Secretariat in Lilongwe, the Authority has three regional service centres in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.

TRAINING PROGRAMS SPECIALIST – APPRENTICESHIP

The Training Programme Specialist – Apprenticeship will effectively and efficiently regulate, promote and facilitating formal TEVET programmes in Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres.

KEY DUTIES

a) Annual plans and budgets and reporting

  • Compile and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plans and activity reports to facilitate review of performance
  • Participate in the preparation, formulation and implementation of weekly, monthly, quarterly budgets and work plans for formal apprenticeship in Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres
  • Report progress for Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres in the Region

b) Training delivery

  • Conduct pre-inspection and surveillance of unregistered TEVET providers
  • Collect, capture and update the database of Apprentices at Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres to ensure proper apprenticeship management
  • Coordinate awareness programmes and career guidance sessions promote available Apprenticeship programs
  • Facilitate timely disbursement of training subsidies/ fees to Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres for smooth delivery of training
  • Facilitate external verification of assessment at Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres for timely certification and completion of training
  • Facilitate progression of trainees from informal to formal apprenticeship
  • Facilitate implementation of bursary schemes and scholarships in the Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres
  • Facilitate capacity building initiatives for Instructors from Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres
  • Facilitate procurement of external CBET Delivery

c) Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Conduct monitoring and inspection of Apprentices in Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres in order to ensure quality training delivery
  • Monitor implementation of projects in Community Technical Colleges and Community Skills Development Centres

REPORTING
Reporting to the Senior Training Programs Specialist (North)

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages and statistical packages.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Technical Education or Education (humanities or sciences) from a recognized university and any other related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience
