TEVET Authority

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority is a regulatory body that was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to regulate, facilitate and promote TEVETin Malawi. Apart from the Secretariat in Lilongwe, the Authority has three regional service centres in Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.

Employment opportunities have now risen within the Authority for various positions for which the Authority invites applications from qualified candidates.

HEAD OF INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (IECT)

The Head of Information, Education and Communication Technology (IECT) requires a person who will promote TEVET Authority’s corporate image to its various internal and external stakeholders and technological infrastructure.

KEY DUTIES

a) Corporate Communication

  • Develop and execute comprehensive corporate communication strategies to foster transparency, consistency and engagement.
  • Ensure that all internal and external communications reflect the company’s mission and values.

b) Reputation Management

  • Proactively manage and enhance the company’s reputation by identifying and addressing issues, and promoting positive stories in the media and among stakeholders.

c) Public Relations

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with the media, and industry influencers. Handle media enquiries and coordinate media events.
  • Acts as spokesperson and interface between TEVET Authority and other organisations such as media and special interest groups to enhance awareness and publicity of TEVET.

d) Crisis Management

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans, including managing communication during crises, ensuring timely responses and protecting the company’s image.

e) Stakeholder Engagement

  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including customers, investors, employees and community groups.
  • Build positive relationships and address their concerns.

f) Brand Management

  • Oversee brand consistency and messaging across all Authority’s materials, ensuring alignment with corporate values and mission.
  • Management of the Authority’s website and social medial platforms to increase visibility and awareness.

g) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

  • Develop and lead CSR initiatives that reflect the Authority’s commitment to ethical, sustainable and responsible business practices.

h) Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of IECT staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

i) Budget Management

  • Manage the IECT budget, ensuring cost-effective strategies and efficient allocation and use of resources.
  • Lead in preparation of divisional annual plans and related budget estimates including the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual implementation reports in respect of the TEVET Authority’s programmes.
  • Produce plans and budgets for the division to ensure effective delivery of activities.

RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Head of Information, Education and Communication Technology (IECT) shall have direct responsibility for the following officers:

  1. Senior Education and Communication Specialist
  2. Senior Information and Communication Technology Specialist

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS
The position requires a person with the following attributes and skills:

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Crisis management, issues resolution and cybersecurity skills.
  • Proficiency in public relations and media management.
  • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility principles.
  • Information Technology (IT) leadership and project management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  1. Master’s degree in Media and Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, or related qualification.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  3. Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
