Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA)

The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was established by Section 7 (1) of the Environment Management Act (EMA) of 2017 as the principal agency for the protection and management of the environment and sustainable utilization of natural resources. MEPA coordinates, monitors, supervises and consults with all relevant stakeholders on all activities relating to the utilization and management of the environment and natural resources.

The MEPA is inviting applications from suitable, highly qualified, experienced and motivated candidates to fill the positions of Assistant Accountant tenable at its secretariat situated in Arwa House, City Center, Lilongwe

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
Grade : ME6
Division : Finance and Accounting
Reporting to : Accountant
Responsible for : None

PURPOSE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Purpose of the Job: To implement financial and accounting services for effective and efficient utilization of financial resources in the Authority.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

a. Compiling payments vouchers and payment of salaries.
b. Writing and issuing out cheques.
c. Maintaining of Control Ledger and Advance Ledger.
d. Maintaining of Cash Book and preparing of Cash Control.
e. Conducting bank reconciliation.
f. Transferring cash in liaison with Accountant General’s office.
g. Performing any other duties relevant to the post as may be assigned.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Diploma in Accounting/Finance from an accredited institution recognised by National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
  • A minimum of (2) years’ experience in finance and accounting in a busy organisation.

Additional Skills and Abilities
• Good knowledge of financial management and accounting.
• Working knowledge of accounting packages such as Accpac, SAGE etc.
• Proficient skills in MicrosoftOffice (MSWord, Excel and Access).
• High integrity and honesty personality.
• Problem solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent numerical skills, strong analytical skills and a good eye for detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
• Strong planning and organizationalskills.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
